A typical village of the garrigues, Villeveyrac has developed with the prestigious Cistercian Abbey of Valmagne, classified as a Historical Monument.
From the 19th century, Villeveyrac developed an important mining activity (bauxite) which had a great influence on the local economy, supporting up to 50 families. Today there are still some traces of this mining past and an industrial activity that still exists.
The municipality has taken advantage of the old galleries that have become real natural water reservoirs for the development of agriculture. The water reserves built up have made it possible to diversify crops and plant fruit trees. Villeveyrac has many winegrowers and market gardeners.
