The drawbridges

Presentation

The canals that link the Thau Lagoon with the sea have many bridges crossing them. Some of them are movable, either drawbridges or swing bridges, letting boats through at set times.

With all the bridges in the open position the town is completely cut off and, for that moment, it turns into an island once more.

The present day bridges have replaced the original bridges that were first made of wood and later metal with three of them providing road links.
